May 2019 Company Newsletter

Can you guess the everyday object in the above image?

On the Inside

Welcome to Visible Alpha’s inaugural internal monthly newsletter. You told us one of the biggest challenges you face is internal communication and transparency. A communications committee was formed to address this global issue and created this newsletter as a first step toward solving this challenge. The committee aims to solicit information from all corners of the company. We strongly encourage you to take five minutes to read each newsletter so you feel more informed, know where to find more information on key initiatives and have more insight into what different departments are working on.

Product & Operations

Enterprise Product

Project Spark

Phase 3 of RTv2 was released on schedule, with 87.5% (35) of clients fully onboarded and five clients in the onboarding phase. Phase 4 began April 30 with two waves of four clients each rolling onto the new system.

For questions about Project Spark, contact Lana Gemmell.

Provider Evaluation

Product and Engineering are in discussion to begin a rewrite of Provider Evaluation, which will include database migration, technical stack updates and functional changes with a focus on self-service for vote setup. The Provider Evaluation team is currently focused on adding robust audit and tracking tools to allow us to better support clients when troubleshooting the vote.

Enterprise Usage Analytics via Mixpanel

We now capture Login, Logout and URL change events across the sell-side and buy-side platforms in our NEW Mixpanel analytics tool. These events enable us to know DAU, WAU and MAU across the system and by product. Client Care and Product are currently using this information to troubleshoot issues and will determine the best way to share relevant information across the firm. For questions, please contact Lana.

Professional Products

Excel Add-In

Our latest Excel Add-In introduces record stability and performance and is now being used by over 350 users with minimal issues. Congrats and a big thanks to our Excel Add-In team for driving great improvement to our clients’ core workflows.

Two Beta Programs for Early Adopters

Standardized Operating Industry Data
We are happy to announce beta access for a group of users for standardized operating line items for specific industries: Airlines, Oil+Gas Exploration, Diversified Banks and Restaurants. Additionally, there are several new features for analyzing this data on-app. If any salesperson has clients interested in gaining beta access, please reach out to Veeral.

Research Reports
As we continue to roll out more content sets in Insights, we are inviting clients to enjoy early access to written research from our company pages.

Data Operations, Research and Engineering

Operating Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Insights data operations is creating brand new standardized datasets to help clients understand the dynamics of an industry. We started by rolling out deep revenue and cost driver KPIs that will allow you to perform company comparisons at the click of a button.

Questions? Contact Amar Vira and Ravi Shenoy.

Sell-Side Engagement

Our prioritization of training (with contributor relations), product development (alerts from the product team) and sell-side outreach (marketing and targeted emails) continues to pay dividends. In 1Q19, we had 559 citations in equity research, up from 243 in the previous quarter. The trend in 2Q19 looks very promising.

In business media, the highlight was the citation of Visible Alpha in multiple Bloomberg articles, their TV channel and their business radio station. Our sell-side estimates proved to be more accurate than the estimates produced by their Model 3 tracker.

Research and Entitlements 2.0

Our Engineering teams are working on rebuilding key components like Research 2.0 and Entitlements 2.0 with the goals of improving speed, resiliency, usability and support. Both components are scheduled to be released to production in two months.

Questions? Contact Arpan Sen.

Client & Contributor Updates

Client Story

Holocene is a hedge fund started by Citadel’s former head of equities. They currently have about 25 Insights users and are looking to add another 20 investment professionals onto the platform. In fact, their CIO recently reached out to have the Excel Add-In installed on all conference room laptops, as Insights is an integral part of their investment process. Great job to Joe Boo and Antoinette Delmage on managing this account!

Contributors on Insights

We continue to roll out Insights to contributors, having hosted training sessions for BAML, BTIG, Canaccord, HSBC, Instinet and Redburn. We recently had our first research citation by Redburn, an account managed by Serena Le Bargy — well done, Serena!

Edward Nienstedt hosted a training at BTIG, convincing an analyst who previously refused to contribute to begin to submit his universe of models, giving us biotech coverage. Great job, Ed!

Client & Contributor Resources

Excel Add-In Resources

Two new Excel Add-In resources are available for clients. This cheat sheet provides information on key functionality and keyboard shortcuts. Jim Hiltner, with the help of Joe Cavanagh, created this Excel Deep Dive to provide clients with a sample introductory set of templates that allow you to see the various ways to analyze our data, as well as get an understanding of the depth and breadth of the line item coverage available in Insights.

Competitor News

Competitive Analysis

Marketing recently conducted a competitive analysis for Insights, with a goal to understand how our competitors message and position their companies and products, as well as to provide insight to their marketing strategies. View the marketing competitive analysis here >

Great Reviews

Rodney Pedersen, CRO: “I am continually motivated by the response from our client base as we show Insights in the marketplace. We have created something that is truly differentiated and additive to the investment process. I walked 9.1 miles in one day last week traveling between meetings in NYC — your salespeople are pounding the pavement!”
