After a challenging 2020, 2021-2023 marked recovery years for commercial airplane makers Airbus (EPA: AIR) and Boeing (NYSE: BA). While Boeing is expected to see commercial airplane delivery growth slow to +2% year over year in 2024, commercial airplane deliveries for Airbus are expected to return nearly to pre-pandemic levels.
Based on Visible Alpha consensus, Airbus is expected to deliver 808 commercial airplanes in 2024. This includes 703 narrow-body aircraft, comprising A220 airplanes (up +19% YoY) and A320 (up +9% YoY), as well as 105 wide-body aircraft, including the A330 (up +13% YoY) and A350 (up +8% YoY).
Boeing delivered 806 jets in 2018, a level analysts estimate it will only reach again by 2027. In contrast, Airbus achieved a record high of 863 shipments in 2019, a milestone that analysts expect to be surpassed in 2025 with an estimated 917 deliveries. Commercial aircraft revenues for Airbus are expected to rise by +12% in 2024 compared to the +15% growth seen in 2023, reaching €53.5 billion. Overall, revenues are expected to be up +9.7% in 2024, reaching €71.8 billion.
