Service mesh architecture

HR organized a captivating Brown bag session on Service Mesh Architecture by Milind Walke. We had a good participation from staff, with more than 30 engineers in attendance to develop an understanding of the coveted topic. Participants learned about the basics of service mesh pattern and how it helps inter-services communication in our microservices environment. The feedback of the session was extremely positive and going forward we will have more such case-based session showcasing the application of technologies in our rich technology ecosystem.

Noida air quality

The air quality in Delhi-Noida became progressively worse in the month of November, impacting the daily lifestyle of everyone in Delhi-Noida. Visible Alpha wanted to make sure that we do every possible thing to help our employees in this situation. Visible Alpha provided high-quality face masks to all Noida employees and their families to provide protection, particularly during their commuting time. We had installed several additional high quality air purifiers to improve air quality in the Noida office. We also gave high quality air purifiers to the employees to assure that employees have better quality air at home, too.

Product & Operations

Pragmatic Institute

In late October, members of the product, research, marketing and operations teams attended a two-day training with Pragmatic Institute. We conducted a Q&A with Samantha Miller, Chief Product Officer, on the training to learn more.

What is Pragmatic Institute?

Founded as Pragmatic Marketing in 1993, Pragmatic Institute has a strong track record of providing real-world insights, actionable best practices and proven tools to product managers and product marketing managers around the world.

Can you tell us more about it?

Yes! Sixteen colleagues attended a training session held exclusively for Visible Alpha. Over two days, we covered the curriculum of two of Pragmatic’s most popular courses:  Foundations and Focus.

These courses center around using the Pragmatic Framework, which provides a standard language and blueprint of the key activities needed to bring profitable products to market using an outside-in, market-driven approach.

Learn more about the Pragmatic Framework >

How did you learn about the Pragmatic Framework, and why did you think this training was important?

I attended Pragmatic training years ago at the request of my company’s CEO and became certified. I was instantly a fan and used the framework to drive real, tangible change in the way my team developed products. As a result, we were able to re-invent and turn around a product line using some of the techniques.

What do you see as the benefit for Visible Alpha?

For Visible Alpha, I believe it will be invaluable in giving us tools to innovate and plan products leveraging a market-driven, outside-in approach. It is so important to understand what the customers and the market (including non-customers) need, so we can solve the right problems for them. The framework can help us focus and prioritize our product decisions based on customer and market needs.

Did the attendees get any kind of certification?

I’m happy to report that everyone passed Pragmatic Institute’s certification exam.  Congratulations to: Bonanza Chalaban, Emma Margetts, Philip Harrison, Nitin Gupta, Amar Vira, Lana Gemmell, Bob McCarthy, Monique Yen, James Park, John Eliseo, Jonathan Palcsesz, Scott Winship, Vignesh Murali, Chang Zhou, Claire Wang, Kirsten Hively

Anything else to share?

These team members are now Pragmatic Alumni and have access to additional product resources and a LinkedIn community of other product professionals. I’m proud of our team and confident we can do great things!image

Macau Casino Analysts Believe 2020 Will Be Mass-ive

Casino operators in Macau have been struggling from less visiting traffic due to tensions in Hong Kong, macro uncertainties, and tighter travel restrictions ahead of President Xi’s December visit for Macau’s 20th handover anniversary. However, analysts believe upcoming infrastructure improvements and an expected easing of security measures following the year-end celebration will increase mass-market tourism and sales through 2020.

VA Actuals

VA Actuals is a data set that provides a historical view of a company not available in filings and is in line with the workflow of investment professionals. VA Actuals is produced by systematically aggregating historical data from sell-side analyst models and surfacing the most comparable adjusted and operating historical view on a company. VA Actuals is continually updated as analysts revise their own models based on restatements, a challenging metric for investment professionals to detect and capture.
